Choosing the Right Skincare Products

Skincare product ranges have increased unfathomably over the last few years, and it seems there is now a cream for every skin type, skin problem or sign of aging. The problem is knowing which ones are right for your skin. With every pot and tube claiming to work miracles for you it can be so confusing trying to work out what you actually need from a product.

This is why it is sometimes easier to do some research at home before you hit the shops and get thoroughly confused. There are hundreds of forums on the internet where people discuss and review products, and these can be such a useful source of information, especially when it comes to new, much hyped products that have just hit the shelves. Rather than spending a small fortune on the latest product yourself, why not let someone else do it and see what they have to say about it first!

If you are unsure what skin type you have, try some of the big brand manufacturer’s websites, as they often have online questionnaires that take a couple of minutes to fill out and will not only come back with your skin type, but may also suggest some products that will suit your skin. Of course they will only recommend their own products, but it is a good way to get a rough idea of the type of products you should be looking to buy. Another option is to go to any major chemist where they have counters for all of the big brand names where you can have a free skin consultation carried out, and again, products recommended for you. This is actually quite a good way to try out products as even if you don’t buy anything there and then, more often than not you will find yourself walking away with a goody bag full of trial samples of products that will suit your skin type. You may well find your perfect product by taking advantage of a couple of consultations like this, after all, that is the whole idea behind them so why not make the most of it.

Once you have determined your skin type and the sort of products you would like to use, it is time to find a brand that suits your skin. It is worth remembering that expensive doesn’t necessarily mean good, and you might find that a budget skincare range suits your skin better than a top end range. It is all down to the active ingredients in the products and the way they work with your skin. A lot of budget range products contain the same ingredients as their more expensive counterparts, they just don’t have the flashy packaging. Trial and error is often the best way to find the right skincare products, but remember it can take up to 6 weeks to see the full effects of any new product on your skin, so patience is essential. Unless you have an undesirable reaction to a new product then keep using it for at least 4 weeks, if by then you are not convinced, then feel free to move onto the next one until you find your holy grail of skincare!
